Prototype
After several days of manipulating and creating in a 3d software called blender, my prototype has come from the digital into the physical! Soon, it will be attached in "orbit" around a globe to help visualize a space tether orbiting the earth.
Scroll down to see my final model of the tether in "orbit" around a globe!
I went to the Wood Technology room, believing that assembly of my model will only take about 20 minutes. Little did I know what was ahead of me.
With the help of another student in the room (seen in navy blue sweater), and from the wood technology teacher, we first decided that soldering and using the metal wire that I had gathered would not work. We found steel wire in the room, but it was too thin, so we cut off a long length of wire, tied the two ends together, and twisted the two ends together using a hand drill.
A few seconds of welding and blinding light later, and we had the model tether in orbit!
Sketches
Over the course of this year and throughout the project, I've done some sketching of space tethers. Here's some of them! Hope you enjoy them!
